Experienced colorectal care with a personal approach
Mrs Katie Yeadon is a Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon based in North Devon. She has been a consultant since 2007 and combines extensive clinical experience with a strong emphasis on clear explanations, shared decisions and reassuring care.
Training and experience
Katie qualified in medicine in 1994 after studying at the United Medical and Dental School of Guy's and St Thomas's in London. Her surgical training subsequently took her through Bristol and hospitals across the South West, including extensive specialist registrar experience in colorectal surgery.
Her current practice covers both cancer and benign colorectal surgery. Around 85% of her colorectal surgery is laparoscopic or laparoscopically assisted, where clinically appropriate. She has particular experience in inflammatory bowel disease, anal fissures and fistulas, haemorrhoids, colorectal cancer and lower gastrointestinal endoscopy.

Specialist clinical interests
Inflammatory bowel disease
Katie has been the principal IBD surgeon in North Devon for many years, working closely with gastroenterology, IBD nursing and pharmacy colleagues and contributing to multidisciplinary decision-making.
Anal fissure and benign anal conditions
She established and ran a specialist anal fissure clinic, including outpatient Botox treatment, and performs sphincter-preserving anal advancement flap surgery where appropriate.
Colorectal cancer
Katie has been involved throughout her consultant career in multidisciplinary management of colorectal and rectal cancer, including open and minimally invasive surgery.
Colonoscopy and endoscopy
She is a Bowel Cancer Screening Programme endoscopist and a JETS colonoscopy trainer, with experience in complex polyp removal and a continuing focus on quality and patient comfort.
Professional leadership and national roles
Katie's work extends beyond her own clinical practice. She has held national and regional roles with the Royal College of Surgeons of England, the Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland (ACPGBI) and the Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland.

Teaching and training

Katie has published widely in colorectal surgery, endoscopy and surgical care. She has contributed to national professional guidance on subjects including anal fissure management, colorectal polyps, gastrointestinal bleeding and the use of FIT in endoscopic investigation.
Her involvement in research, audit, guideline development and national professional committees helps her keep her clinical decision-making connected to current evidence and standards.
